Description
I should preface this description by telling the viewer that I only buy flowers when I'm in trouble. But on this occasion it was the day before Mother's Day. So I was out shopping for flowers to celebrate, as all good sons should. My Mom loved tulips so I reached out to pick the best one for her when my eye strayed over to a beautiful pink flower with one white petal. I had to have it, I had to take this particular flower knowing full well it would make a unique portrait. I have no Idea why it has just one white petal ( genetic mutation perhaps) but I found it to be stunningly captivating......enjoy. Taken at the 'Jelly Jar Studio' in Florida ,the Sunshine State.

Beautiful subject, artfully captured...lighting, composition, all of it! It certainly is a beautiful flower, but is it beautiful because of or in spite of its "flaw"? I say "neither", because I reject that it is flawed. It is different, to be sure. It stands out and does not live up to the expectations of most, but is that a cause to label it so? Not to my mind. I submit that this particular blossom is a proxy for us to examine when throwing judgement on anything or anybody that presents as "different" or outside the scope of what any one of us might consider to be "normal". This blossom would be beautiful if all the petals were the same. The white petal does not make the blossom more or less beautiful, but it does make it more interesting. Nicely done, Stuart!

Wonderful close up of a unique Gerbera flower, with great composition, and photo description, Stuart. I believe that the term for this kind of genetic presentation is "mosaicism". F/L

Thank you for the great comment Morris. What a great word 'mosaicism'....makes sense though considering the root of the word. Thanks!
